Downham Market is a town of around 10,000 people and, as the name suggests, developed as a place to buy and sell produce from the Fens and was famed for its butter market.
These days the toing a froing is more likely to be commuters who would rather live here than pricy Cambridge. However, it’s former glory days as a market town are relived every Friday and Saturday.
If you are looking for accommodation, you may be tempted by the distinct Castle Hotel but, alas its hostelry days are done and it’s now flats.
